Susan G. Komen Foundation Drops Funding for Planned Parenthood
The Susan G. Komen Foundation is no longer helping to fund breast screenings for women who need them at Planned Parenthood. This is quite insane (after all, they’re a breast cancer charity), horrible, and apparently incredibly politically motivated - their new VP is Karen Handel, a vociferous anti-Choice, anti-Planned Parenthood Conservative activist. What’s sad is that of all of Planned Parenthood’s services, only 3% are abortion related. The rest? Oh, little things like breast-cancer screenings for low-income women. Nothing important, or anything that the Susan G. Komen foundation might want to … you know… support.
Fortunately you can help. Donate here: www.plannedparenthood.org - I just donated $25. Will you join me? You can donate as little as $5. The link is on the top-right of the page – just look for the big “DONATE”.
Wonderfully, you can even make a donation in honor of someone. If you're feeling particularly spunky, you can make a donation in memory of the Susan G. Komen foundation, and they'll even send an acknowledgement note in the mail to Karen Handel (their new anti-Planned Parenthood VP) at their HQ Address:
5005 LBJ Freeway, Suite 250, Dallas, TX 75244
It's a great way to show Planned Parenthood some love, donate to charity, and make a statement all in one go. (I just did that... I feel much better, and not only am I helping a little bit to get women the healthcare they need, but I’m also making a statement to the Susan G. Komen foundation that politics and charity don’t mix).
So please, donate. Every little helps.
